Candidates for city council positions in Russia’s town of Lermontov in the Stavropol region have been on a hunger strike since yesterday.
The council was dissolved last year and new elections were scheduled.
The opposition claimed the move was illegal, and protested against the decision of the local election commission and court to refuse the registration of almost all deputies of the previous council.
