22 Feb 2012 15:19 • Views: 260 Investigators say they see no links to Georgian intelligence in today’s assassination attempt against de facto Abkhazian President Alexander Ankvab, a spokesperson said.
“We are now investigating several theories, but none of them point to Georgian involvement so far,” said Ankvab’s spokesperson Kristian Bzhania, as cited by Interfax.
Bzhania said the attack against Ankvab was thoroughly prepared for a long time. The investigation has already uncovered a pillbox, equipped for artillery fire.
RIA Novosti reports that Sukhumi, the de facto Abkhazian capital, links the assassination attempt with financial politics.
“It is the work of Abkhazia’s enemies, those who stole and are stealing national wealth and robbing the treasury. The assassination attempt casts a shadow over Abkhazia’s image,” Vladimir Agrba, a humanities expert from Sukhumi Institute, said during a TV announcement.
