22 Feb 2012 12:24 • Views: 291 The Georgian breakaway republic of Abkhazian temporarily closed its de facto borders with Russia and Georgia Feb. 22, after an assassination attempt against de facto President Alexander Ankvab, Interfax reported, citing a local police source.
“The regime of crossing the Abkhazian-Russian border has put under stricter control. The checkpoints are completely closed at the Georgian-Abkhazian border,” a source told Interfax.
According to RIA Novosti, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called Ankvab earlier today and offered Russia’s assistance in investigating the assassination attempt.
