Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said Feb. 20 that Georgia is testing a new locally-produced armored vehicle.
While visiting with Georgian soldiers taking part in the ISAF Mission in Afghanistan, Saakashvili said that the new vehicle has been named Lazika after the new city being built at Georgia’s Black Sea coast.
“You know that we earlier created an armored personnel carrier Didgori, we are also making machine guns and other ammunition – not many countries of the world do this,” Saakashvili said, as cited by Civil.ge.
Two types of Didgori vehicles were developed by the Delta Research Center, which is a part of the Georgian Defense Ministry. They were first presented to the public during the Independence Day parade on May 26, 2011.
