A delegation of three Azerbaijani parliamentary deputies will travel to Yerevan, Armenia Feb. 22 to take part in the “Euronest” Eastern Partnership Parliamentary Assembly, the Caucasian Knot reported.
At the meeting, Euro-NEST (Neighborhood East Parliamentary Assembly) countries will discuss strengthening civil society development.
According to ARA Agency, Azerbaijani lawmakers Ravshan Rzayev, Faradzh Guliyev and Azay Guliyev will arrive to Armenia for the event. Meetings with members of the Armenian National Platform, the Armenian Youth Parliament and the civil society activists are also on the agenda.
According to an Armenian Deputy Artak Zakaryan, it will be the first meeting of a permanent EU Commission held outside the EU, news.am reported.
Euro-NEST was established in May 2011 in Brussels as a parliamentary structure of the EU Eastern Partnership initiative, which includes six post-Soviet countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. The latter’s official participation in the initiative has been put on hold due to the issues of democracy and human rights, according to RIA Novosti.
According to the European Parliament’s website, the group aims to serve as a forum “promoting the necessary conditions to accelerate political association and further economic integration between the European Union and the Eastern European Partners, without pre-judging the individual aspirations or integration agendas of any Partner.”
